Bulgari: net revenues up 44% in the first half of year 2000
Rome, July 27, 2000 – Bulgari, the contemporary Italian jeweller, announced in Rome interim turnover of 272 million Euro, showing an increase of 44% (exchange rates variations account for around 10%) versus the same period of last year (1999: 189 million Euro).*
The Group posted brilliant growth rates in all major markets. Growth was particularly noteworthy in Italy, in the rest of Europe and in the Americas. Also South East Asia and Japan continued to grow. It is worth noticing that Italy experienced a particularly aggressive growth in the second quarter of 2000.
The first semester was characterized by particularly favourable sales in the jewellery category, growing by an outstanding +78%. The watch category continued its expansion (+43%) without having yet benefited from the launch of the new watch Rettangolo; the accessories grew significantly (+21%) with a particular boost in the second quarter due to the launch of a new line of bags.
Francesco Trapani commented: “I am very satisfied with the results obtained in this first half of 2000 since they once again show the potential and the strenght of our brand. I'm particularly pleased about the results obtained with the jewellery category which represents our core business. It has been an intense half year: we have signed an agreement with The Hour Glass - a Singapore listed Group - to acquire Gerald Genta SA, Daniel Roth SA and Manufacture de Haute Horlogerie SA. We are, furthermore, studying the potential of e-commerce with two specialized companies – eluxury.com and looklook.com – for the sale of some selected Bulgari products on line.”
*Preliminary non audited figures. The half year results will be approved by the Board on September 13th, 2000.
